That Odisha has abundance of talented girls rowers was once again proved true with all three new faces of the seven-member state squad winning a total of three medals in the 15th Sub-junior and 16th Challanger Sprint National Championships at Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu on today. Kajal Jena was most successful among the trio, bagging gold in single scull category of the sub-junior championship.
She also claimed a bronze medal, finishing third in single scull category of the challenger sprint championship. The other gold medal was pocketed by Pricila Buxla and Manisha Kispotta in the coxless pair event of the sub-junior championship. But the four boys (Roshan Lakra, Pritam Beura, Chandrasekhar Sahoo and Manas Ranjan Sahoo) of the squad contended themselves as competitors.
Odisha coach Jose Jacob and Odisha Association for Rowing & Sculling secretary Binod Dash, who accompanied the rowers to Kokaikanal, congratulated the girls for their medal-winning performance. Jacob was happy that new talents have started fetching laurels for the state.
